“Recovery Without Relapse”
At Reformers Unanimous our goal is not sobriety, it’s total Freedom.
5 points toward freedom.
1. Freedom, not sobriety, is the goal.
Addictions are “coping mechanisms” meant to mask an underlying root cause. They are the symptoms of a problem, not the actual problem themselves. Freedom is dealing with root causes that eliminate the need for masking pain and a release from bondage.
2. Relapse is not a part of recovery.
Relapse is not a part of recovery, but a part of failure. This mindset gives permission for failure. It is a failure during the recovery process. It is harmful, not helpful, nor acceptable. It doesn’t work. We need to seek freedom.
3. Understanding Triggers (what you believe affects your recovery)
Part of recovery is learning to properly respond to triggers in a positive and healthy way. Triggers are things in an individuals daily life that tempts them to return to their addictive or destructive behavior and when nurtured can take on a life of their own.
4. Dealing with triggers
You first have to identify your triggers, then set a strategy to deal with them properly. This strategy must be a) founded on the truth, b) immediately available to the individual, c) something that is possible to do in the real world, d) be successful when done properly, e) something that the individual is capable of doing, and f) able to work with all triggers.
5. The Truth makes free. (Jesus Christ is the Truth)
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh unto the Father, but by me. (KJV) To walk in freedom your personal beliefs must be based on truth; and that truth is Jesus Christ. Jesus doesn’t just know the truth, or have the truth, He is the truth.
There are not 10 or 12 steps to being healed from our wounds and offenses, or being right with God. There is only one step, and that step is Jesus Christ!
Accepting the free gift of salvation and acknowledging that the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary paid the complete penalty for your sin is the only way to have true freedom from bondage.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
